Conductor-in-Residence Program

Beginning in 2024 the RSO invited a student of conducting to attend rehearsals, be mentored by Maestro Kim and to conduct the orchestra occasionally

Connor Morrissey is a New Jersey-based conductor and composer. He most recently concluded his tenure as Music Director of the Rutgers University Brass Band, a British-style brass ensemble, where season highlights included leading the ensemble’s debut performance at the Mid-Atlantic Brass Band Festival, hosted by Rowan University. Connor has also participated in numerous conducting workshops and masterclasses, having worked with maestri such as Neil Varon, Mark Shapiro, James Lowe, Harold Rosenbaum, and James Ross. In the fall of 2023, he was named the Conducting Fellow for the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra, where he now makes his debut at the orchestra’s May 2024 season finale concert.  

Also an active composer, his recent accomplishments include guest conducting the professional premiere of one of his compositions at the Southeast Trombone Symposium in the summer of 2022, and being named a state finalist in the 2021 NJMEA Young Composer’s Competition.
